Details:1. What is SCORE?

SCORE is an organization, affiliated with the Small Business Administration, that is comprised of current and retired executives and professionals who volunteer to help persons who want to start new businesses or are currently operating small businesses.

2. Why do people volunteer for SCORE

Each SCORE volunteer is a successful business person or professional who has a strong desire to “pay forward” that success to a new generation of entrepreneurs.

3. How do SCORE volunteers help new and/or small business?

We provide no cost one on one mentoring to persons starting or running a small business.  In individual ongoing mentoring sessions SCORE mentors help individual clients advance their business plans by setting session by session goals.  We act as both sounding boards and advisors.

4. Is One on One Mentoring all that SCORE does?

No!  In addition to mentoring, SCORE volunteers also teach.  We present numerous seminars per year at locations throughout the Valley on a variety of topics dealing with starting and running a small business.  Last year over 2,000 people attended our seminars!

Other SCORE volunteers act as subject matter experts.  These people are available to SCORE mentors for advice on issues which are a bit more specialized.  Our subject matter experts specialize in trademark and patent issues, employment issues and social media penetration to name a few.

5. Where do new SCORE Volunteers come from?

They come from everywhere!  They are successful lawyers, financial professionals and business executives who have experience in marketing, manufacturing, finance, sales, information technology and analytics to name just a few.  But whatever their past, SCORE volunteers have three things in common, a history of success, a desire to help others and a desire to have fun in the process.  The open secret at SCORE is that helping others is FUN!

6. Why is SCORE here?

We know that the Southwest Valley is the fast growing area in the Phoenix area.  We are looking for fantastic business people with a history of success to provide to entrepreneurs in this area the assistance they need to create and grow the next generation of businesses.

7. What does it take to join SCORE?

A commitment to spend your free hours to help people start new businesses and a willingness to go through an onboarding process where you will learn more about SCORE, its ethics and how we help people realize their business dreams.  If you have time on your hands and you are looking for a way to have fun while helping others start the businesses of tomorrow, please come to our presentation on April 30.  SCORE may be for you!  For more information on SCORE see our informational video at https://youtu.be/MTZ_N76ttyc.
